Blue Mountains Basketball is excited to welcome professional basketball player, coach and founder of Assist Athlete Services Mikhaela Cann to Katoomba High School on Sunday 1 November 2026 for a FREE workshop exploring The Mental Side of the Game.
The workshop is open to girls from all sports, clubs and associations. You do not need to be a Blue Mountains Basketball player to attend.
While Mikhaela brings her experience as an elite basketballer, the skills covered are relevant to young athletes across all sports — and can also help in everyday life.
Self-Talk • Mistakes • Team Dynamics
Developing as an athlete involves more than physical skills. How players respond to mistakes, speak to themselves, communicate with teammates and manage challenging moments can all influence what happens next.
Through small-group activities, discussion and real sporting scenarios, participants will explore:
- Self-Talk: Recognising unhelpful thoughts and learning how to use language that helps them refocus and perform.
- Overcoming Mistakes: Developing a simple reset process to move forward after a mistake.
- Team Dynamics: Understanding how body language, communication and energy affect teammates, and how to contribute positively when things aren’t going well.
This interactive workshop gives girls the opportunity to learn, practise and apply practical mental skills they can begin using immediately.
