Your Introduction to 5×5 Basketball
Our U13 Development League is the next step in our junior development pathway after 3×3.
Running Saturdays from 11am and designed for boys and girls aged 10–12, it introduces players to full-court 5×5 basketball in a supportive, development-focused environment.
Players build their understanding of team play, court positioning and the rules of 5×5 basketball while continuing to develop their individual skills, confidence and decision-making.
Term 4 sessions commence on Saturday 17th October 2026 at 11am.
A Competition Built Around Development
The Development League helps players make the transition from small-sided 3×3 basketball into the structure of a full 5×5 game.
It is ideal for players who have completed Aussie Hoops or played 3×3 and are ready to take the next step into 5×5 basketball.
It also provides an accessible starting point for players aged 10–12 who are new to competition basketball and want to learn the game in a welcoming environment.
Throughout the season, players will develop:
- Teamwork and communication
- Court spacing and positioning
- Passing, dribbling and finishing
- Defence and rebounding
- Game awareness and decision-making
- Confidence playing in a structured competition
The emphasis is on participation, learning and enjoyment rather than results.
There are no finals, allowing players and coaches to focus on improvement across the full nine-week season.
How Teams Are Formed
There is no need to organise a complete team before registering. All players register individually, and BMBA will create balanced teams for the season.
Players may nominate up to three friends they would like to play with. We will group nominated friends together wherever possible, although requests cannot be guaranteed and will depend on overall registrations and team numbers.
Each team stays together throughout the term, creating a genuine team environment while allowing players to build friendships and develop together.
Across the nine-week season:
- Teams will compete in weekly fixtures.
- Results will contribute to a season ladder.
The Development League does not include finals or playoffs, with the focus remaining on participation, learning and development throughout the season.
$110 per player + BNSW Registration (if required)
Uniform
All players are required to wear an official Blue Mountains Basketball Aussie Hoops jersey while participating in the Development League.
If you don’t already have a jersey, you can purchase one when registering online or at the stadium on game day.
