Are you an experienced basketball coach ready to build the next generation of players in the Blue Mountains?

Blue Mountains Basketball Association (BMBA) is hiring a committed and community-minded Development Officer to lead our junior basketball programs, strengthen participation, and oversee a team of development coaches across the Hazelbrook to Mt Victoria corridor.

This is a permanent part-time role (20 hours/week) with full entitlements (paid leave, superannuation) and the potential to become full-time.

There is no fixed timeline — the transition is performance-based and depends on the achievement of KPIs and sustainable program growth that justifies the expansion.

🔧 Key Responsibilities

  • Design and deliver engaging basketball programs in local primary schools

  • Create clear development pathways from beginner to representative levels for players aged 5–17

  • Recruit, manage, and mentor a team of coaches delivering school programs and clinics

  • Build strong community relationships with players, parents, and schools

  • Attend domestic competitions (Tuesday evenings, Friday evenings, Saturday mornings) to engage with families, monitor progress, and oversee game-day activity — including court supervision functions

  • Manage disputes professionally, including issues with coaches, parents, and spectators

  • Deliver holiday camps and school-based programs, requiring transportation and setup of basketball equipment including portable hoops

Essential Requirements

  • Minimum 2 years basketball coaching experience

  • Strong knowledge of basketball fundamentals and grassroots development

  • Demonstrated ability to lead or mentor other coaches and deliver player programs

  • Working with Children Check (NSW)

  • First Aid certification

  • Own reliable transport capable of carrying basketball equipment (e.g., portable hoops)

  • Availability during:

    – School hours (for in-school programs)

    – School holidays (for camps)

    – Tuesday & Friday evenings, and Saturday mornings (for domestic competitions)

🎓 Highly Regarded

  • Basketball NSW or Basketball Australia Coaching accreditation

  • Qualifications in sports coaching, education, sport science, or community development

  • Experience designing development curriculums or running grassroots programs

🌱 What We Offer

  • Permanent part-time position (20 hrs/week) with superannuation and paid leave

  • Opportunity to transition to full-time based on program success — no set timeline; transition occurs once the role meets KPIs and supports a sustainable full-time wage

  • Significant ownership of program design and delivery

  • Collaborative, supportive, and community-focused team culture

  • A chance to shape the future of basketball across the Blue Mountains
