The Blue Mountains basketball community is celebrating after three junior teams made their mark at the Waratah Western Junior League basketball finals.
The Blue Mountains Magic Under 14 Boys delivered an unforgettable season in Division 2, storming through the regular rounds undefeated with a perfect 10-0 record to finish top of the ladder.
In the finals series, the boys’ character was on full display. Facing an 11-point deficit in the final quarter of their opening final, the Magic boys refused to give in. With unwavering determination and the crowd urging them on, they clawed their way back to secure a heart-stopping 1-point victory that had supporters on the edge of their seats.
Buoyed by that remarkable comeback, the boys brought their best to the grand final. From the opening tip-off, they played with skill, intensity, and teamwork, ultimately sealing a 64-56 win over Temora. The championship win marks the Magic’s first flag since 2016, and the first since joining the Western Junior League.

The Magic Under 12 boys also had a season to remember, finishing a strong third in Division 2. After a promising grading round, they continued to build momentum through three competitive rounds, securing their place in the finals. In their opening final, the boys showcased their teamwork and energy, dominating the game with a 76-38 victory. In the semi-final, they faced a highly skilled Dubbo side. Although the result didn’t fall their way, the Magic boys can hold their heads high after a season full of growth and improvement.

Adding to the excitement, the Magic Under 12 girls had a huge weekend, finishing a third in Division 1. The girls played a strong game against Dubbo, dominating their way to a 49-28 win, however fell short against a tough West Wyalong side. This group of talented and determined players have shown tremendous growth over the season, both as individuals and as a team.
The efforts of these three teams reflect not just their talent on the court, but the dedication of their coaches, families, and the wider Magic basketball community.
The finals were held in Griffith from May 10-11.
